Top 10 advertising mistakes
Findyourself link directory UPDATES Issue 6, January 2010 |
FindYourSelf will introduce you the Top 10 advertising mistakes by John D. Kopcial, founder and exec. director of a marketing company in Ohio. “In helping you avoid the same mistakes that a lot of business owners go through when advertising, let me share the top 10 biggest advertising mistakes.” John D. Kopcial |
Dear FYS Reader!Let me show you the list of the 10 biggest advertising mistakes : |
1) HEADLINE The headline is the most important part of any ad. The biggest mistake is a bad headline. Go with the one that will grab the reader’s attention. “Biggest Sale Ever” or “We’re the Best ___________,” are a waste of time. You want to grab your reader instantly, convey your message and provoke curiosity. Do these and you are on your way to getting the reader to read the rest of your ad. |
2) NO OFFER/CRUMMY OFFER The hardest thing any business will ever do is get a new customer. Make a crummy offer/no offer and you will never have a chance. Make your offer as good as you can afford. |
3) NO DEADLINE Deadlines create fear–fear of missing an offer, sale or opportunity. Unless you push your readers to act, they never will. The shorter the deadline, the better. |
4) TESTIMONIALS Testimonials are a great way to get instant credibility. What your disinterested 3rd party customers say about you is ten to twenty times more believable than what you say about yourself. If there is only one thing you ever do, use testimonials! Every business should use them. Put them EVERYWHERE-print ads, websites, store walls, radio, TV, sales letters, etc. |
5) NO GUARANTEE Studies show that the better the guarantee, the more people will buy. If you can’t guarantee your products or services, then find something else to sell. |
One of the best ads that I have ever read was a plumber’s ad in the Yellow Pages. It looked and read like a news article and stood out from all the others around it. It did not look like everyone else’s. When people needed a plumber right now, whose ad do you think they saw AND read AND called? |
7) WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? How many times do you see an ad for a business and all it says is how great the company is, it talks about the owner’s dog and cats, the great customer service, etc? I love animals but what about what the customer wants? Customers ONLY want one thing-”What’s In It For Me?” Stop talking about yourself, focus on what the customer wants and you’ll have better results. |
8 ) MULTIPLE OBJECTIVES An ad should ONLY have one objective: GETTING A STORE VISIT, A CALL, A SALE, etc. A lot of ad agencies (or the business owner) will try to do more than one thing in an ad. This will ruin your chances for success. Focus on the one objective above and you’ll make more money from your ad. |
9) NOT TELLING YOUR STORY Customers love a story and they want to hear why you are making the offer that you are making. Kids love a bedtime story, the Bible is full of stories and the readers of your ad want a story, too. |
10) CUTE ADS Advertisers like cute ads because they think people will remember it. Cute advertising is remembered for being cute, not for selling anything. Studies prove that the type of advertising that sells is emotional, direct response advertising and not cute. |

Link building for Webmasters!
Findyourself link directory UPDATES Issue 5, January 2010 |
Webmasters, online/offline marketers and sales persons should always seek for information : how to increase sales the easy way — by leveraging your existing customers, bringing new visitors to your website (product), increasing sales, etc. FindYourSelf newsletters will always try to help you in that process! |
Dear FindYourSelf Reader! |
Many people I’ve spoken to recently have repeated the same words: new enquiries are down, because people are wary of starting new projects in the current climate. This is an excellent opportunity for you to increase your focus on sales, and there’s no better customer to sell to than an existing one. With a new prospect, you need to build a relationship, gain their trust, explain the merits of your product or service, prove to them you have the skills and reputation, and that they stand to benefit from what you can offer. Then, you still need to procure that sale — a lengthy process indeed. The current situation about an industry slowdown has me reminiscing about the dot-com crash of 2000-2001. In the aftermath of a serious stock market correction, many people chose to ignore the Web. They were scared of building web sites, and the web industry was seemingly tarred with a brush. Seven years later and times have changed; just about every business has a web site, and the Web plays an integral role in the communication and information gathering of much of the world’s population. As a webmaster, website owner, e-marketer you should take advantage of this fact! FindYourSelf link directory is helping you in that process! Submit your new links, optimize your existing submissions for search engines, refer your friends, customers to your website! Featured links at our web directory are prioritized by better position, including them into our newsletters (in most cases they are EXTREMELY useful), tweeting them at TWITTER and showing them at our BLOG !

Dear FYS Reader!
To own a website today is not a big deal, we all know that! Hundreds of thousands of websites are created each day, and the number of terminated sites is not much lower! To own a VISITED website is a success and that should be the goal of every site owner and webmaster. How many visitors or impressions do you need to say you have a visited website? Well, that depends on your niche -> the theme of your page. Some niches are more popular on the web, other sites (usually very specific ones) have less visitors and impressions. One vital aspect of getting more visitors to your site is making it search engine friendly, or to do the SEO-thing… You ALL know what Google, Yahoo or Bing is… When you want to find a site, product, place or friend, you will use one of those (or a thirs one) search engines! |
We at FindYourSelf Link Directory believe that Your advertising links ARE important and they should be indexed by those search engines. Therefore we have optimized the code of the pages at which YOUR links reside to be search engine-friendly, so people can find your sites easily! There is an option to insert your main keywords for your site when submitting a new link at the web directory! When describing your advertising link, try to use as many of the inserted keywords as you can! Give a title to your link which describes the best your submission! This way you will have a perfectly optimized link at FindYourSelf! |
